Guidelines

Each year, the George A. Dennett Needham High School Distinguished Career Award Committee, Inc. selects up to three award recipients from among the nominees. All award recipients are honored at an award ceremony and luncheon in late October. Please join us each October as we celebrate NHS graduates who have made a difference in the world.

Timeline Cycle
  • May 18 –  Nomination process closes
  • June 25 –  Selection process completed 
  • August 1 – Award recipients are notified 
  • Last Friday in October – Award ceremony and luncheon date 
Eligibility
  • Nominated persons must be a Needham High School alumni.
  • Nominated persons must have graduated from Needham High School at least ten years ago.
  • Nominations for posthumous awards will be accepted.
  • Nomination of individuals from minoritized and historically excluded groups are encouraged. 
Submitting a Nomination
Nomination Notification
  • After the nomination process closes, all nominees will be mailed a profile form to complete and return, if they wish to be considered for the award.
Selection Criteria 
  • Nominees will be judged based on their leadership, dedication and accomplishments demonstrated in their chosen career. 
  • Alumni working in all industries are considered including those as corporate officers, community activists, entrepreneurs, the non-profit world, government service, education and military among other industries.
Selection Process 
  • Each year a committee of twelve persons appointed by the high school principal will choose up to three award recipients from among the nominees. 
  • The high school principal and or his/her designee will serve as coordinator of the selection committee.
Award Recipient Requirements
  • The final three award recipients are required to attend the award ceremony in late October.
